Accessing the collection

The James Henry Green Collection encompasses 1500 photographic images, 230 textile pieces and related books and papers, formed in Burma (now Myanmar) during the 1920s and 1930s. These include rare Kachin and Shan textiles and objects. A selection of these items is periodically on display at Brighton Museum and Art Gallery in Brighton.

The photographs and some of the objects have been digitized and may be accessed via the Brighton & Hove Museums Digital Media Bank using the search term “James Henry Green”.

The photographs include possibly the only visual record of life in Kachin State (North East Burma) from the early 20th century. The data base includes further information about each photograph and object.

If you have an enquiry about accessing the James Henry Green collection for research or other purposes, please use the form on the Brighton & Hove Museums Collections Enquiry webpage, listing ‘World Art/Ethnography’ as the collection.
